I had a very difficult time seeing and setting the original mechanical thermostat, so the last time I passed through Menards, I looked at thermostats to replace it.
I found a simple, non-programmable digital thermostat for $18. a LUX model DHM 110, non-programmable thermostat. PERFECT.
Replacement was simple, remove the old thermostat from the wall and disconnect the two wires.
Connect the two wires to the “W” and the “RH” terminals, screw the mount plate to the wall. Install two batteries (not included) and plug in the thermostat into the mount plate.
The switches are easy to see. The only switch I use in the Mirada is the “HEAT-OFF” portion of the Heat-off-cool” switch. The air conditioner and fan switches are not functional and not hooked up to anything.
The digits are easy to read as they are back-lite when you press the buttons.
Temperature is controlled by simply hitting the UP or DOWN buttons to set the temperature.
This thermostat does have a “SAVE” feature, When you hit that button a “SAVE” icon comes on the display. This lowers the temperature set point by 5 degrees. If you hit it again , it set s the thermostat back to the original setting.
This is nice for going out for the day, or even at night. just hit the SAVE button and it lowers the temp by 5 degrees.
love your blog, great job I also have a 2001 mirada.
This sounds great. Does it run the A/C and heat both like the old one did?
NO – Mine only runs my furnace…
