The stock seats in our Mirada are very uncomfortable. After several hours sitting in the drivers seat, I start developing pain in the lower back. The passenger seat is equally bad, and seems like its at the wrong height and angle.
We purchased a used Saturn Vue last winter to fix up and tow behind the Mirada. The Saturn seats seemed very comfortable with many adjustments to tweak the seat exactly the way we wanted them. The thought struck me that the Vue seats would be very nice in the Mirada.
A trip to the junk yard and I found two Vue seats that were in very good condition, $50 for the pair.
Mounting the Vue seats in the Mirada took a little metal work, I used a die grinder to cut the Vue seat mounts off almost flush with the seat adjuster rails. I then cut 4 angle irons, drilled holes so they could be bolted to the existing Mirada seat pedestals, and welded these angles to the Vue seat rails.
The seats rotate using the existing pedestals, and move forward and back with the Vue seat adjusters.
Both seats have a folding arm rest on one side. I made removable armrests and mounted these on the walls next to the drivers seat and the passenger seat. On the test drives, the seats were very comfortable, but we won’t know what the long term effect will be until we hit the road next month.
The drivers seat has a pocket on the back to store maps and stuff. But the back of the passenger seat is a large flat serving tray. When the seat is folded forward, the tray is large and great for dinner, or books, or anything else. Kind of like a small table.
Nice…..
